I have never done any thing like this before so I went to You Tube for help :) I watched a ton of videos on reupholstering many different styles of chairs and then talked a little with the ladies at Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann's to make sure I had all the appropriate materials. Then picked my fabric and finally got to work.

Great Granny's rocking chair
I have been so inspired lately by many different decorating blogs that I follow; this prompted me to search through my house for something to makeover. This was my Great Granny's chair. On a visit out to my Granddaddy's house about 6 years ago he gave it to me and since then it's been sitting quietly in a back room of my house just collecting dust. Looking back I'm thinking why didn't I think of this sooner! What a great chair that just needed a refreshing look.
I didn't know my Great Granny very well she passed when I was young but I remember visiting her a few times and I remember thinking at one visit that I hoped my hair could be as white as her's was when I get older :) Thanks for holding on to this chair Granny and thanks to my Granddaddy for passing it on to me. I love it!

You did a great job! I bet you have the urge to paint every piece of wood or reupholster everything in your house now! I know I do! You should submit this to Better After!
ReplyDeleteAshley!! It looks wonderful! Fantastic job! I just LOVE the new look!!!! I agree with Suzy...I hope you submitted this! :)

This looks awesome! I have the same chair waiting to be refinished.
ReplyDeleteYou are so amazingly talented Ashley. The chair is beautiful!!! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteLove the new look! I have that same chair. I love how it flods up. How hard was it to redo the cover?
ReplyDelete@ Thrifty Ideas not as hard as I imagined. I took off all the old fabric and staples so there was two holes and started from scratch then I sanded and painted.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I reused was the bottom seat board for support but I also added in webbing for extra support.
The Hardest part was removing the all the old staples and making sure the new ones lay flat. :)
Do you have any pictures of the process, or could you maybe write out the process for recovering the seat and back? My sister and I each have the exact same chairs from our great-grandparents and we'd like to refinish them. Thank you!
ReplyDelete@ Emu send me an email to ashley@ashlilium.com and I will forward you the pictures I have of the process and also a break down of what how I did it.
